Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the hosted Hushold service at app.hushold.app, operated by Kyle Johnson (“we”). By creating an account you agree to them. They do not govern the Hushold software itself — the source code is licensed under the GPL-3.0 (clients) and AGPL-3.0 (sync server), and you may always self-host under those licenses instead of using our service.

Early access

Hushold is in active development and the hosted service is currently offered free of charge as an early-access release. It is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. If we ever wind the hosted service down, we will give at least 90 days' notice — and your data is exportable to GnuCash or JSON at any time, so you are never locked in.

Your keys, your responsibility

Your data is end-to-end encrypted with keys only you hold. If you lose both your password and your 24-word recovery phrase, your data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. Keeping the recovery phrase safe is your responsibility.

Acceptable use

• Use the service only for lawful purposes and only to sync data created by Hushold clients.
• Don't attempt to disrupt the service, probe other users' data, or circumvent rate limits and storage quotas.
• Don't use the sync server as general-purpose blob storage; accounts are subject to a per-account storage quota.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, after notice where practical. You can export your data before deletion in all non-abusive cases.

Fees

The hosted service is currently free. If paid tiers are introduced, existing users will be notified well in advance and will never lose the ability to export their data or to migrate to a self-hosted server for free.

Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Settings; deletion is immediate and permanent. We may delete accounts that have been inactive for an extended period, with prior notice to the extent we are able to give it.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for loss of data resulting from lost credentials, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the preceding twelve months (currently zero). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced on this page with a new date and in the project's release notes before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
